Mark Washam Portrait

By Ms. Tank

If you've ever been to Bike Week or Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach, chances are you've seen Mark Washam of Experteez. Mark is a local artist and his air-brush shop on Main Street displays helmets, leathers, t-shirts, fenders, tanks, and canvases of his work.

Mark's studio is set in his store-front window so passers-by can stop and watch his air-brush artistry.

I dropped in on Mark this week and had a look around his studio. Mark explained how he uses his bachelor's degree in fine arts to help guide his customers in designing their ideas into works of art. He said his customers are often surprised to discover the final product is better than they imagined.

I took a few minutes of Mark's time to ask him some questions.

Q: Where do your clients come from?
A: My clients are both local and tourist. I see lots of out-of-town customers during events
like Bike Week and Biketoberfest and I also see many people on vacation from Europe.

Q: Can you air-brush while your customers wait?
A: Many times I can complete a custom job in the same day but some detailed jobs take longer.

Q: What is your most popular air-brush job?
A: Helmets and leathers especially during Bike Week but I also do a lot of fuel tanks,
side covers, and saddle bags.

Q: Why did you set up your studio in the street-front window?
A: People stop on the sidewalk to watch me work. The window is an attraction for
passers-by that brings my art right onto Main Street.

Q: How can people contact you?
A: People can go to my website at www.x-perteez.com for my email and phone number
or better yet come to my studio at 608 Main Street, Daytona Beach, FL.
